Why don't women sit with their legs spread wide open, in the same way that men do? (Assuming of course that they're not wearing skirts)

    • Manto: In general, I'd say 'no.' I'm not saying I don't know a few modest men, but stereotype and the television propaganda like to show that message. Plus, I won't say I don't know a few immodest men.

      Besides, you can't deny there's a double-standard for women v. men.

Also, I don't really think women need to protect their modesty by keeping their legs shut. Whether you do or don't is sort of an unconscious action. It's just what we do to be comfortable, and some are more comfortable with crossed legs or open legs. Plus, people would really like to apply stereotypes to others whether they do or don't.

    • I never really thought about it that way, if closed legs define gayness then a large proportion of the male population are gay at one time or another, I think if a man is comfortable in his surroundings be he gay,bi or hetro he will sit with his legs open, if he is in a Doctors surgery full of strangers and he is awaiting serious life or death results I bet you he has his legs shut. Just my opinion :o)

    • Worzel: I don't really think closed v. open defines a person's sexual orientation. I think it affects how others view them, at certain moments.

Really, having legs open or shut is more of a body language thing, like you were getting to at the end of your comment. When we're more comfortable, we tend to be more 'open' and when we're nervous, we tend to bring in our body parts 'closer,' like a defensive mechanism.

    • Dork; Which is what I said from a man's point of view. If he is comfortable DESPITE sexuality he will sit open legged if not as in "Dr's Surgery" he will sit closed.I asked my good lady before answering and she gave it some thought and then said , "to protect modesty". Agreed it is from a poll of one but at least not a totally male answer :o)

    • Worzel: Lol. Don't think I was trying to attack you, I just like to debate things. And polls of one is all anyone on here usually uses to answer, anyways. Doesn't make anyone's point more or less valid.
