I use vinegar when my son lies...we started with lemon juice and went to vinegar. I explained that his lying is as yucky as it is for the people hes lied to. (substitute lying for name calling or back talk) Some people do saucing, but if your child already is sensitive to spicy things this is just aweful. My hubby recommends soap. Of course if taking away things works, great, but many times it doesn't. And spanking rarely works for my little darling as his pain tolerance is beyond what our spanking tastes would allow.

    • You shouldn't use soap. Once a child in a daycare I went to had a reaction to the soap used and an ambulance had to be called - his parents didn't know that he would have such a reaction either, they could have made the same mistake. That daycare was shut down because the child's life had been at risk.

    • I'm fine with using the vinegar...BUT if you use straight vinegar or straight lemon juice very often it will eat the enamel off of the teeth.

I know because I take vinegar for my stomach. I always rinse my mouth out afterward to save my teeth.

Maybe a different punishment would be more appropriate?
