Well, to actually answer the question, the Flyers started wearing them at home the same time every other team started wearing their dark jerseys at home: the first post-lockout season.

    • True. A lot of teams came up with third jerseys over the past decade, and they tended to be dark colors. Since people wanted to be able to see the third jerseys at the home games, the league instituted a new policy: visiting teams wear white and home teams wear dark. This allowed home teams to alternate between their normal and third jersey when at home, without forcing the opposing team to change their outfits.

    • Not only so that fans could see the third jerseys, but so teams would have an easier time selling jerseys too.
