As far as I know people don't usually die as a physical result of the drugs, although people can kill themselves and others while on the drugs. LSD will make you crazy. DO NOT TRY LSD.
what if someone spliced the genes that produce the buzz in pot into a legal plant? (tomato, lawn grass, ivy, etc)

LSD on its own does not make one crazy. However, any prior mental imbalances, even minor, can be exacerbated by using LSD.

What psychedelic doesn't make us trip...or what you may refer to as "crazy"? Anyway, yes, you can only take LSD only a certain amount of times until you go "crazy". As a matter of fact I know of someone who has taken at least 7000 hits of acid. Yes, after a while he went insane, then he got some psychiatric help, now he's fine. Just see how many times it takes you to take 7000 hits...don't worry too much. Sometimes flashbacks happen after a while.
