Where is the oxygen sensor on a 1997 Ford Ranger with 6 cylinders?

    In 1996, the use on on-board diagnostic system was mandated by law, so depending on the exact manufacture date, it may have 2, 3 or 4 different oxygen sensors.

    The first one should be right on the exhaust manifold, near the bottom where the manifold drops down from the engine.

    There may be another on farther down the manifold, and there is a pretty good bet that there is another one back behind the catalytic converter (maybe even two, depending on the emissions system)

    I am 95% sure that you should be able to see all of them from under the truck. I believe that the ones behind the converter are on the side of the exhaust pipe.

    The first one, the one closest to the cylindars on the manifold is USUALLY the one that fails first. Without a diagnostic test set, there is no way to tell exactly which one failed.
