All religions that celebrate Christmas are celebrating a form of winter solstice. Winter solstice was a pagan holiday at the time christianity and paganism were merged together in the fourth century. Christians needed a christian holiday on the same day, hence Christmas was born.

    • Christmas is no longer on the winter solstice and Christianity and paganism didn't "merge," the former just adopted some symbols from the latter. Paganism is still around.

    • Chirstmas may no longer be on the winter solstice, however christmas use Solstice traditions or customes. Christianity did definatly merged or if you want to say adopted to pagan beliefs. The majority of christianity today comes from a pagan backround.
