My portable dvd player reads no valid disc with a new store bought dvd?

Exchange it with another! Does it do this on other players? What DVD is it?

Philips HTS3565D-37 will not play certain DVD's. I have upgraded the software, the discs are coded for the correct region. Any ideas why?
