  • They are subject to being fired. Most employees are up for a performance review every year. In the case of the US House, that review is every 2 years. The Senate is up for review every 6. If we, the supervisors, aren't willing to fire them at the ballot then we deserve what we get.
  • Sadly, incompetence is not always adequate justification for dismissal. I've witnessed (as in hearing) this first hand. With politicians, I like to think of them as contract workers. The contract is for X amount of months, and if you work out, we'll extend. If not, well thank you.
  • That's why we vote every two or four years....
  • Yes, immediate recall.
  • They can be fired but the problem is that we as voters often fail to due to a myriad of reasons, be it simple ignorance or that the person presently there brings home the 'pork'. Myself, I think the following would keep them on their toes a bit more: Eliminate ALL the automatic payroll deductions (and any other automatic payments of taxes if any there be, sorry not willing to delve into the morass that is the tax code) and make the tax, whatever percentage it happens to be, one lump sum due on a specific day, this makes it truly painful rather than the dull ache the deductions currently are (do not tell me you don't get mad everytime you see your gross vs. your net). Make the back of the remitance form a ballot. Vote and pay your taxes the same day, I suspect many of these bums would be out on the first go around.
