I thnk thats kind of a stereotype tv cashes in on. I don't think everyone drinks when they get lonely. But I dunno, I like time alone and I always have music and art to keep me occupied. BUT I think if people do drink when they get lonely it's probably because bars are social places and alcohol tends to make people gabby. It's easier to socialize and of course alcohol also suppresses that feeling and makes most people elated....most of the time :)

"Alcohol is the cause of and solution to all of life's problems", a wise philosopher once said. I believe people use alcohol as a social lubricant when they are lonely because it eases your inhibitions.

To numb the pain. I drink alone a lot when times are hard, it helps me cope and then regroup for the next great battle of my life. Usually when things are heavy on ones mind they resort to something, alcohol, drugs, eating, pain pills, etc. It is not the right "psycho babble" that people want to hear, but it is the truth.
