I don't think you can at the beginning. He may not even be aware of it himself. Sometimes we do things for unknown reasons, or we do them and don't even think about why. Time will tell, of course, if it is really you he cares about or if he is going to move on to someone else. Maybe someone else is smart enough to know in advance about the depth of feeling, but I'm not...I think you take a chance and sometimes you luck out and sometimes you don't! :)

pay attention to how he is around you, whether its alone or in a group.. you can tell a lot by what a guy does rather than what he says, cuz we guys can never figure out what to say!
