  • Amazing or fixating?
  • Not as amazing as I feel expected. They strive very hard in all faucets of life, to do well, be the best, etc.
  • With the huge amount of people in the country, I don't find it surprising at all. What is more surprising is that they haven't been a force in the Olympics (and the world in general) until now. It shows that they are starting to realize and monopolize on the great resources they have always had, that have gone underdeveloped for the past 300 years.
  • In the 2004 Athens Olympics, China was second in the medal tally, with 32 gold medals. It was behind the USA, which had 36. Now that it's the host, of course it would be easier for it to get more gold medals. It has the homecourt advantage. And with more than a billion people, they are bound to have more good athletes. So no, I'm not really amazed.
