(http://www.spacedaily.com/reports/How_Much_Will_Beijing_Pay_For_The_Olympics_999.html) Peking officials have spent an estimated US$40 Billion on the Games and all the associated costs. As with Olympics all over the world (except LA 1984) the government of the host nation forces the people to pay for the cost through taxation. Many studies have been conducted that show the cost of hosting the Summer Olympics is always greater than the dividends (except 1984 in LA) and the tax payers end up the losers every time. A pitiful example is the 1976 Montreal Olympics. The people of Quebec only recently finished paying off the debt for those Olympic Games and it has taken so long that as the final payment on the Olympic stadium was made the Canadians also announced that it was so old and outdated that it will be razed. Tax payers in any city ought to think twice before agreeing to foot the bill for hosting the Olympics.
