Technically, it's bamboo. But, if you are talking about fastest growing grass from seed for lawns, then it is clearly ryegrass. Ryegrass sprouts 5 - 10 days compared to other grasses

I shall tell you what my dad told me aeons ago when he was still alive and I was a little girl.."devilgrass"..it was the bane of his lawnmowing experience..we had a huge backyard and a modest front yard and it was lawn lawn lawn..he showed me what devilgrass looked like and no matter how thoroughly he was in removing it, within a short period of time there it was again. That is my only experience...I was probably 8 years old. You might say that is a relic from the past!...as am I! :)
