Tom has both caught and ate Jerry a large number of times, but then comes a dog, or a metal pan or something unusal banging on the cat and Jerry escapes. The cat deserves it.

Yes but then they are not your normal cartoon cat and mouse as Tom never had any desire to eat Jerry or cause him any real harm. As you can tell Jerry most of the time found it rewarding to get Tom to chase him as in a game. They behaved more like they were brothers then sworn enemies.

My 4 year old would watch Tom and Jerry 24/7 if I let him! Seeing as how I've seen this so much lately I would say - So far he hasn't "got" him!!!!

He caught up in almost every (or every other) episode, but Jerry was always good at getting away. Are you asking if they've ever done a Tom & Jerry in which Tom catches Jerry and then claws at and plays with his body until Jerry dies, and then perhaps eats him afterwards? No, they've never done that. Would have been one hell of a way to end the series though.
