  • Unsubscribe. You have to accept, at some point, that the person just isn't going to see things your way. It's better than getting upset and name calling like a little kid. Walk away and you look like a grown up and ensure that you don't end up in the PB. Both of which are very good things.
  • I usually say my peace and then stop. I won't get pulled in to drama, there's really no point. If someone wants to have an intelligent debate, that's fine.I won't waste my time with grade school nonsense.
  • It depends on the person involved and how reasonable they are. I've never unsubscribed. I normally feel I'm right, Hahaha! But I'm aware sometimes you just can't win. I'll generally agree to disagree.
  • Usually prove my point.
  • When someone challenges my answer in a way that's helpful, I say thank you for the perspective and end it. If someone is disrespectful in challenging me, I completely ignore it. I provided my answer, and someone who disagrees is free to write his/her own. As far as the conflict escalating in the thread, some people fight for the sake of conflict. I say, rise above your egotistical instinct to "be right" and "win" and walk away completely. Don't choose the negative and the nasty. Choose the people who treat you with respect and kindness. Unsubcribe.
  • I used to idiotically keep trying to make my point. <shakes head> Now I unsubscribe. When my friends see what's going on, they call me and make me promise to shut up before I get the penalty box again, LOL.
  • I use the old "everyones entitled to an opinion, even if I don't agree with it" statement.
  • I can handle heated. Heated is just part of the nature of discussion. Impolite, rude, angry, cruel, taunting are when I unsubscribe. So long as it is a civil disagreement, I keep trying to prove my point.
  • I always back off first, hopefully before things get ugly and make any apologies needed on my half of an argument. The exception has only been one thing.....insulting my friends on AB. I have a LOT of friends on here who bust their asses to make AB an exceptional place to be. I don't like seeing them slapped in the face. I don't take it lightly. Aside from that, no worries! I am adult enough to make a point and wash my hands of it permanently!
  • When it becomes obvious that no positions are ever going to change as a result of discussion, I bid one and all a fond adieu. : )
  • I usually try to calm myself down, if I am a bit hot headed, and then try to reason as much as I am able and if nothing comes of it, I tie it off with an agreement to disagree or something to that effect.
  • Even if i new i was right i would ignore. Nothing is worth getting upset over.
  • If I feel I've been as clear as I can be and it is getting nowhere, I just leave, ignore it not looking back. If it takes Unsubbing, fine, or even leaving the computer and taking a walk. NO namecalling no jibs. I guess I feel if we can't establish any common ground at all, I'm outta there!
  • I usually unsubscribe and ignor them.:-)+
  • I just drop everything and unsubscribe. The best feature on this site.
  • I maybe answer two or three times and then either don't respond again or unsubscribe. Some things you just can't convince me otherwise about and I guess there are others the same way. After a few 'head-buttings' it's time to quit.
  • Just leave them babbling to themselves;)
  • I don't bother with it. It isn't worth the stress!! Or the PB!!!!!!!
  • I can count, on one hand, heated threads I have been a part of. My first conflict here on AB, ended like this (http://wickedrantsandraves.blogspot.com/2008/07/perhaps-im-no-better-than.html). Subsequent to this, I engaged in another (http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/2107867) with someone who, out of 22 responses, was the only one who took the gentleman's question seriously. It still baffles me how one can be so ignorant. The last one was with someone who I have vowed to never interact with again (no matter how many times they change their name and avatar – I know who they are) so posting the thread would defy my commitment. If, in the future, other issues arise I will simply no longer reply...it's simply not worth it. Needless to say, I generally keep away from politics, abortion and guns around here...there are too many wacky personalities.
  • Unsubscribe, then I report the thread to the moderators.
  • I usually continue to prove my point and try to understand theirs through their completly unrelated comments about my spelling and that I have no friends and should go kill myself. I like to understand other's points of view but some people make it so hard because they abandon trying to debate and turn it into an argument.
  • I leave. Happy Monday! :) ((hugs))
  • I'll make a few attempts at making my point...using actual facts. But there are those who are so stubborn they'd rather believe in lies and b.s. I then unsubscribe and ignore it. No point arguing with a brick wall.
  • I try and do all of those things, other than stopping or un-subscribing.
  • I make my point clear in the answer/additional comments. After that I leave. I never unsubscribe, I just stop responding once I have nothing more to say.
  • I have a history of ripping their heads off, but today I'm unsubscribing.
  • If I am right I show them proof. If they are just looking for a fight, I ignore them. They hate that.
  • I'll stick to my point if it gets attacked, and while I'm willing to consider different points of views and different angles, I won't stand for anyone trying to change my mind just because they want to be right. If I'm being flamed or insulted, I usually ignore it, though sometimes I'll find myself continuing the argument anyways, but always in a mature and constructive way (I think.) so that if someone gets Penalty Boxed, it isn't me. However I don't like being presented with blatant insult and strawman arguements right off the bat, sometimes it's hard not to behave the same way as them. But if I did it every single time, I would have been banished by now. Ain't nobody going to drive me off of here, no matter how many downrates or insults come my way, or whatever else people want to try. I don't want to change anyone's mind, but as anybody who confronts my views in such ways, I have the right to an opinion too, and I'll guard it. If the argument seems persuadable, even if the person is being vehement or hostile, I don't see the use of walking away or unsubscribing, it kinda defeats the purpose of having an online community. :/ You can still partake and be mature-even if the other person isn't. If it's just insulting though, it doesn't really bother me, because it's just stupid, and I'll come back when they decide to make more sense. Of course I'm far from being the prime example, but I can learn from my mistakes-like anybody. I don't like dismissing people as inferior or less intelligent than me because they're name calling, that doesn't mean much of anything. Maybe they're having a bad day, or genuinely upset by what you said, doesn't make them stupid. Obviously some people like to do this on AB to kill time, but you can recognize them easy, and most of the justifications I see around here about this don't adhere to only those sort of trolls, at all. I welcome any debate, though it doesn't make it my intent when I post an answer, and some people are pretty damn uncivilized, as such, I admit to having told some to f off after one comment, but as I try to give people more than one chance, I would hope that the feeling could be recriprocated.
  • probably stop replying
