Psychology can be traced back to ancient civilizations including Greece, Rome, India, Persia (Iran), China and Egypt. The earliest known written work on psychology was by Aristotle who postulated that different parts of the brain control different functions such as anger or happiness. He also believed that mental illness could be explained by bad air or bad thoughts.
