It's possible. You can either have landed status (permanent residency status) or in some rare cases, where the position you seek can't be filled by a Canadian and is not sensitive to national security, you can apply. If you're eligible for dual Canadian /American citizenship, that's fine, but you will be swearing an oath to not only defend Canada, but the Monarchy as well so keep that in mind. Here's a link to the information you'll need as an American. http://www.recruiting.forces.gc.ca/v3/engraph/resources/noncanadians_en.aspx?html=False&bhcp=1 Wow..have they ever revamped that site. I just had a look. They never used the term "fight" before, in any of the recruitment literature. I used to work recruiting the last 3 months of my contract and we were expressly forbidden to imply combat in any trade application. Times are a changin'.

I can definitely tell you that foreigners can join the American military.

Very true, Foreigners do join our US military. Foreigners join our U.S. military to obtain U.S. Citizenship, once the contract has been signed and completed, they then become citizens. Many years ago, when I was at Fort Jackson, "Boot Camp" there were soldiers who joined as languists, from Brazil, Iraq, and Afghanistan. The Afghanistan soldier, was recruited at the age of 44 to be a translator, who was living in New York, with a green card at the time of enlistment. I sure hope that the military does a thorough and extensive back ground check on all forigners, so that an attack does not happen within our military forces. It can happen you know! Canada has a great Airforce, I am a U.S Veteran (15-Q) air traffic controler, looking into joing the Canadian Airforce. First I need to become a permanent resident of Canada, and hope that there are open slots in the Air Force for me that those 16 year old Canadians aren't snagging.

Canadian Forces (CF) policy states that in order to be eligible for enrolment into the Forces, applicants must hold Canadian citizenship. That sort of thing can change at any time. I do know it has been done in the past.
