"The Last Samurai" Made me cry for like an hour after the movie. It's so depressing to know that such an awesome civilized culture was destroyed just because of technology. Another sad movie is "Pearl Harbor" It's nearly the same thing.. But all the loop holes that is in it are so sad!
-
"Grave of the Fireflies" So beautiful and so sad. It's an animated movie and if you have any children or any affinity for them it will break your heart into teeny tiny pieces. I'll leave it to Roger Ebert's "Great Movies" essay to describe the film, but part of what makes it so effective is that the man who made it lived through this situation in WWII and made the film in tribute to his sister who he lost in a similar way. It makes you despair at the cruelty of the world and marvel at the love these siblings have for each other and the joy they can find in their bleak existence. http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=%2F20000319%2FREVIEWS08%2F3190301%2F1023
