Well, first of all, in MLB, you don't have tie games. To calculate games behind, subtract the number of wins by the team in question from the number of wins by the first place team. Then, subtract the number of losses by the first place team from the team in question. Add the two numbers and divide by two. Here's and example: Team 1 93 wins, 62 losses Team 2 75 wins, 75 losses 93-75= 18; 75-62=13; (18 + 13)/2 = 15.5

This isn't for MLB. It is for a local rec baseball league. We can have ties if we run out of time or due to weather. I still need to reflect the ties in the standings and GB. The answer didn't mention how I would address ties in calculating GB. Do I just add 1/2 game to the wins and losses for each team using your formula.
