  • It is thought to have originated in Naples, Italy.... thus the name Neapolitan.
  • Ice cream itself orginated in Italy. There it is called gelato, and the Neapolitan ice cream orginiated in Naples, Italy.
  • Don't know, Da Ben Dan. I just know that it is Vanilla, Chocolate, and Strawberry combined and layered.
  • It is supposed to indicate that the style of ice cream originally came from Naples, which is not strictly true. Italian migrants to the USA brought with them the knowledge of ice cream making, and one of the ice creams they loved was spumoni, a tricolored, three-flavored (usually cherry, chocolate and pistachio) type. But the flavour of spumoni was probably not to the tastes of non-Italians, so the spumoni was changed into a three coloured ice cream, chocolate, strawberry and vanilla and given the name "Neapolitan".
  • Back in 1922m it was invented by a guy named Neal Paul Etan. He was from Naples, Florida. He originally named his creation Florididdly Doo. No one bought it because, let's face it, WHO WANTS ICE CREAM called Florididdly Doo? Not me, that's for sure? So anyway, his wife told him that since no one wanted his stuff anyway, the name didn't matter; she said he should just name it after himself. So he did. Over the years the name has morphed into neopolitan. I swear it's the truth. Honest.
