You can run it off an external USB drive IF that drive has sufficient capacity. An external drive is just like an internal drive as far as the operating system is concerned at this level. You probably could run it off of a CD if you figured out exactly how to install it onto the CD, but that would be an advanced tinkering job for a power user and would take some real effort.

Hey, I actually have exactly what you're looking for. You need to stick CS2 into a virtual sandbox per se. http://www.thinstall.com/ but it isnt really for the general person... Although, you CAN find a sandboxed version of CS2 on pretty much any torrent tracker. ;)

Install it to a flash drive, then create a Windows Live CD/DVD (RW is best) using Winbuilder. http://winbuilder.net/download.php Enjoy. EDIT: Give paint.net a whirl. It's free and just as capable as photoshop when you install the proper plug-ins. http://www.getpaint.net/
