  • If you recall the very first scene of the movie is Jose sitting at the beach watching the same little girl with her real adoptive parents. Everything from that is a flash back. The ending is a fairy tale of how he wished it could have been. So it appears that yes he did convince Nina to have the baby and give it up for adoption but he did not keep it himself as apparant from the very first scene of the movie.
  • The answer above helps me some but, still does not make it clear to me. In the scene where Edwardo is whispering in Manny's ear, and Manny says "you are gonna do what?" Made me think he was going to adopt the child but I had the opinion she was going ahead with the abortion since she wanted him to go with her. Ending was a real mystery!
  • Yes, the end is a fantasy as described above. Unfortunately I do not think that Jose convinced Nina to keep the baby. Remember the flash forward scenes where she is at the clinic with him, and she goes into the treatment room, and comes out and cries with him? I think they used the same little girl from the beginning beach scene as Bella in Jose's fantasy because I think seeing her on the beach inspires his dream of the girl that could have been. I think the movie does imply that Jose and Nina kept some sort of relationship, whether friends or more, because of their apparent closeness at the abortion clinic, which would have been the latest time the movie showed them together, chronologically-speaking. A side note--think of how creepy it would be if he were watching the actual child who had been adopted...
