  • i do it all sounds the same
  • Some of it sucks and some of it is OK. I can say the same for every genre. I do enjoy a few artists and their works. However I am very discriminating and do not like songs that are derogatory toward women as this is a big problem in that industry.
  • because you dont like it, or it has no meaning for you doesnt mean "it sucks".......its just not for you, thats all.
  • i won't say it sucks but i do not like it myself.
  • to me rap is just like someone talking with music in the background. yeah i think it sucks
  • It depends. Some rappers will actually focus on politics, social issues, and things that need to be talked about. Others just go on about their ho's, gats, and ice (women, guns, and cocaine). One track I particularly like is 'Caught in a Hustle' by Immortal Technique. He uses lines like 'But I never lose hope, success is psychological' and 'A lot of niggas drop science but they don't know the math, their minds are narrower than the righteous path'. There's a huge contrast between that type of rap and the mindless rambling of others.
  • i can't say that it all sucks, because it doesn't, just the ignorant, ranting about money, cars and women, things like that make it seem redundant and foolish, while alot of artist(also my favorites), like Talib Kweli, Jay-Z, Nas, Mos Def, Lauryn Hill, they rap about real life things...that a lot of people, esp. african americans, can relate to and vibe with, because we have been there and gone thru it all, and unfortunately are still going thru it...just listen to the words they speak, Lauryn Hill is the best female MC, she speaks to females, young and old, black, white or whatever, her cd, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, was sick...i love that cd...
  • Rap is not music. Most people who record rap, cannot sing. if they could, they would not be just talking with music. The vast majority of rap is aimed at society in a very bad way. "kill the police, kill the m....fkrs" is not music........its hate on a disc. This is not a talent. most everyone can talk. Some rap is good, the majority is not. Again, its all about the money.
  • "Rap music" is an oxymoron. I never understood how it took off. One song, maybe. One album - well that's a bit much, but a whole genre??? What happened? Then again, I do like death metal. But at least with death metal, the guitars are actually playing tunes, whereas in rap if there is a guitar it just makes the occasional noise. Maybe people got sick of guitar tunes ..., but yeah, how many different ways can someone talk fast in a staccato voice with a drum beat (usually the same one) in the background? It's got me buggered.
  • I can understand how people don't like a certain genre of music and I respect that very much. I have to thank you for not calling rap 'not music'. While I do not like practically all rap/hip hop that is being released today I do really like groups such as De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest and Digable Planets. These are more old skool groups though. Common and Mos Def are two good artists to listen to today as well.
  • (C)Rap is tribal jungle
  • Rap... music... Two words that don't go together. I mean, for heavens sake, I can talk to music about how I have "ho's"...
  • I've heard vulgar-mouthed construction workers using jackhammers give better public performances for nothing.
  • Rap music is so gone its not even funny. How many times can you rap about cars, explicit languages, chicks, money, an etc. These days they're just signing anybody and everybody just to make money off of them, buy themselves a house and a few cars and then dump them. Diddy is a perfect example with his making the band. Have rap gotten so bad that we have to look for the next new "rapper" on tv now? I like when some focus on real topics that we can relate to but its so rare these days because they don't play them on the radio as much as the other ones. That's why i listen to rock because its so diverse and made to be fun too. And I know they say those who are "real" rappers can rap from the top of there head but i think they've had so many verses stores up in the head from writing them that they just recite it and call it freestyle. I could be wrong but who knows. :)
  • It's not my favorite music....but it's good enough for me. I wouldn't just say that I hate something as simple as a music genre....unless it, like, raped me or something.
  • it really does. lol+
  • Oh me, me, I don't.
  • I like this rap! :)
  • I agree that a lot of it does suck, but some of it is tolerable. =]
  • Rap is garbage. Yelling to a drum beat is garbage and that's all rap is.
  • of course it sucks.
  • I would say rap music sucks, but that would say that rap is music.
  • 95% of it DOES suck...to me anyway. I can listen to some songs.
  • Who said that rap is music? My 2 cents.
  • some songs blow my mind... i make music myself and when i hear certain songs... i hang my head in shame only long enough to realize i am practicing still not professing
  • Hand raised.
  • I do.:-)
  • Back when it first came out, when I was in high school and college (we're talking late 70s, early 80s), it wasn't so bad. I actually liked a lot of it, and lot of it was fun. Now it seems like so much of it is angry, insulting, degrading, praising violence and treating women like crap, and trashing the police and the law....not to mention how most of it is full of vulgarity and profanity. I'm no prude, but when someone is blasting it in my neighborhood or in the strip mall I go to when there are kids around, that's just rude and disrespectful. Of course, there's also the issue of rap actually being "music." People talking/rhyming over a electronic beat or music they've sampled off of someone else isn't music. Rap is for people who can't sing, and can't write or play actual music.
  • As my genius brother once said, "It's just someone with no talent speaking very fast into a microphone." Yes, it sucks. Yeahhh, it sucks bad.
  • some sucks some doesnt. just like any other music genre.
  • sucks the life from people who hate music and uses it to their advantage☺
  • I dont know if it has been said because i was too lazy to read all of the answers but do u know what rap stands for? i do! it stands for Retards Attempting Poetry :)
  • You seem to have left the C off rap
  • Me!!!!!!!!!
  • It used to not be so bad. Now it sucks a bowling ball through a straw. My friend made me watch a video for "watch me crank that yank" what does that even mean. they were dressed up like playing cards stupid as hell
  • I usually don't diss an entire genre but I don't care for the violent and misogynic aspects of rap. However, I find some of Eminem's satires humorous and I like "Rapture" by Blondie. I also like one I heard by Dr. Dre in "The Wash".
  • I can't stand rap music.
  • It's not really music, it's more like rhythmic chanting.
  • I never liked rap music.
  • i've tried listening to it, but it just doesn't move me!!!
  • Saying it sucks is being infinitely too kind. It is nothing more than the very sound of the tortured souls of Hell itself, and should never have seen the light of day. That guy was right when he said they forgot the C at the beginning of the word.
  • 2Pac (arguably the greatest rapper of all time) once said, that his "rap" or verses are poetry really, and there is beat under it to make it sell.
  • No it does not "suck", only the ignorant would sasy something like that, listen to De La Soul's 3 feet High & Rising, Jay-Z's Reasonable Doubt, Nas' Illmatic, Dizzee Rascal's Boy In The Corner, A Tribe Called Quest's Low End Theory then tell me it "sucks". Theres 30 years of History that you probably aren't aware of. Don't base your opinion on the garbage that is in the charts nowadays
  • well its not as good as it used to be in my opinion
  • I know I'll probably be down-rated for expressing my opinion, but personally, I cannot stand rap music. I see little or NO talent involved. Anyone can rhyme words and speak in cadence. The beats are often monotonous, the lyrics are frequently unintelligible and I just feel that the whole 'gangsta rap' attitude is detrimental to society in general. Now, I know that monotonous and unintelligible are not exclusive to rap music, and I never listen to any song or music that fits either of those descriptions. Just my opinion, of course.
  • 1. I don't listen to much rap these days, but I find that most people who say they can't stand rap actually can't stand the stereotypes of rap culture. Rap can be done over any type of music. So, unless you hate all genres, whatever music you like has the potential for someone to rap over it. 2. Those who says it takes no talent are full of it because (see point 1) there are no limits to composing rap. Tell me your favorite artist, and i bet I can find a rap artist with more musical training. I have heard some very well trained musicians attempt to produce rap and failed miserably because, like it or not, there is a skill involved even if the results are not your cup of tea. 3. Most don't realize that "gangsta" rap is only a small subset of rap that just happens to grab the most headlines. Limiting rap to that would be like defining rock based on controversial acts that have sold well like Marilyn Manson.
  • Rap is the worst. I'm sure it's slowly going to disappear. They can only say so much about patron , 'clubbin', and 'dem hoes' lol
  • Damn near all rap music on the radio today sucks. Rap lost it's credibility when the Hyphy movement took over. Now all you hear in rap, Money, women, bling, nice cars, and partying in the club. Today's rap is very simple minded and has absolutely no substance...
  • Now, some rap (even today) isn't awful. I like Immortal Technique and Aesop Rock, for starters. Intellectual, more underground rap is incredibly good and I love listening to it--especially when I'm driving long distances and trying to stay awake (then I listen to the same song over and over again and try to decipher all the lyrics). Biggie and Tupac cannot possibly be discounted for the contributions they made to music. So, not all rap music sucks. But a lot of it (just like any other genre) does.
  • i dont really like rap itself, but i must admit something like Lollipop by Lyl Wayne is pretty good.
  • i 100% hate rap
  • Rap to me is just a bunch of grown men wearing baggy pants and talking about killing and drugs even though they never do either. Besides you could just to to your dad and say "wear baggy pants and talk about drugs and killing" that makes him a rapper aperently. Who can't make words ryme? realy people?
  • look rappers dont jugde ur music ? we think all music is good music freedom of speech yeah sum rappers give other rappers a bad name.n look at this heavy metale shit all i hear on those cds is screamin who wants to buy a cd with jus yelling shit i could yell n git paid millions but once again freedom of speech dont judge what u dont know . i personaly think people are just raisist to rap cause its nothig but black people n the people that say it sucks no offence are all white people or white washed people
  • 99.9999999% of it is junk.
  • I dont understand rap, so therefore I cant say it sux, I just do not listen to it.
  • Mainstream rap and rock suck they have no real talent rap sings about the same shit and so does rock Rap has the same beat same rythm and same topic (drugs sex or money) rock is 3 chords same beat and rythm all they talk about is having a woman or having a hard life with the millions of dollars they have and rap thinks they are still in the ghetto with millions of dollars they both suck but old school rap is different they actually talk with the beat and stay with the rythm (run dmc nwa ) and 80s rock was good too they had less shouting it made sense and played different shit but metal just sucks straight up screaming into the mic till they don't know what they're saying and the guitars are all over the place along with the drums but they have like 1 good band (slayer ) and all those piercings and tattoos are retarded
  • i like MC Chris and Immortal Technique thats pretty much it. Lil Wayne is gay Biggie Smalls is cool tupac KRS 1 they are good
  • rap music does suck, but there is one good band... INSANE CLOWN POSSE MMFWCL to all my homies!
  • Why would anyone in their right mind refer this crap as music?
  • Not me Rhythm And Poetry
  • R etards A ttempting P oetry. Accept for dot dot curve brokeNCYDE j bigga etc...I like them.
  • cant stand the womanising stuff but most of the rest makes me laugh
  • You can count me in, i have heard one or two that amused me. Most of it is about hate.
  • in general i despise it. however i think there are a few tracks put there that show those who do listen to rap that it's not all about violence and hate, and if they are going to express that that they shouldn't be posers about it
  • As a club & radio DJ, I receive tons of promos to listen to. If it's rap, I don't program it. I don't hate rap. When it first came on the scene, via Sugarhill Records & a few other independent labels, artists, such as Grandmaster Flash, Tom Tom Club etc., put out some great stuff. Groups like the Beastie Boys, N.W.A. were very original. Unfortunetly, the labels all jumped on the genre & destroyed it. Everyone was in it for the buck. You had to have gimmicks, doo rags, backward caps, gold teeth, baggy clothes & a lack of talent. Rock doesn't escape the microscope either. Ridiculous earrings, full body tattoos, bizarre appearances & again a lack of talent has populated that genre too. The difference is the music. Check any record store & look at the closeout bins & you'll find that most of the cutouts are rap. That's a tell tale sign of the genre. Somehow, running into the bathroom to tell your wife, "they're playing our song...Pop That Coochie, by Two Live Crew". Doesn't scream romance, neither does Psychopathy Red off the new Slayer album. It used to be, that an artist released an album of 12 good songs, now it's 10 pieces of crap, one possible hit & one maybe. My gripe about rap is that it went from being original, to copycat, too boring. Almost every rap CD I recieve, samples someone else's hit. I look at the credits to make sure, they give credit to the source they're sampling. If not, I notify the label who's artist is being sampled, so that they can begin legal action. Sampling someone else's music in an effort to get your 15 minutes of fame, really sucks & shows how little talent the artist has. While I love the early rap, I've turned a deaf ear to what's out there now, it treads the same old crap over & over & over again. I know that the rap genre has been slammed over it's lyrical content, trust me, rock has the same issues. The days of the Beatles & the Stones are long over, but even though the Stones haven't had a top 40 hit in 20 years, they can still fill an arena or stadium. Rap can't say that. On the other hand, it's scary that Neil Diamond can do the same. Musical content & how it relates to an individual, will determine how long a genre will last. Rock came along in 1954/1955, that's 55 years & it's still going strong. The best rock bands are the unsigned ones you find on Myspace. Most of the one's that are signed to the major labels leave a lot to be desired. To hate one form of music over another doesn't make much sense. I still don't play or program rap, because most of the listeners & club goers don't care for it, but then I don't program or play classical, polkas, opera etc. Not because they aren't good, but because there isn't much of a sophisticated audience for it. The labels will always aim at the lowest common denominator when marketing a product. To them, rap is that niche. As I said before, just check out the cutout bins.
  • it sucks. it sucks so hard... . also it's not music by definition as it has no melodic line. just an FYI
  • I hate gangsta "c"rap.
  • I do! I do!
  • Actually some rap music is quite good....indeed some of "all music" is good. Music is the voice of the soul. At it's best moments it's a profound experience - and can change lives for the better. Open your ears - and broaden your mind - and you may understand just what I'm talking about here.
  • I do I do -- hand in air -- count me
  • I be the one.
  • definetly not me. but we all have our own opinions.
  • Hey, fella, I happen to LIKE Santa's music!
  • I think it suck. I'm super-white, though. I seriously am.
  • I can't stand that crap but I have to admit every once in a while an ok song comes out
  • ♪♫ "Shinin' their light in my face and for what? Maybe it's because I kick so much butt. I kick ass. Or maybe 'cause I blast off a stupid-ass (N-word) when I'm playin' with the trigger Of an Uzi or an AK 'Cause the police always got sumthin' stupid to say..." ♪♫ - ;-)
  • Can we not just listen to all types of music......? You gotta be open to everything :)
  • i only like tupac the rest is crap
  • Well, I LOVE Rap. I listen to (almost) all kinds of music but Rap is my favorite.
  • Rap is for people who can't sing, and it is also the epitome of garbage,
  • I can't stand rap music, I wouldn't even describe it as music. Most of it is foul-mouthed, misogynistic garbage and I sincerely hope my son never gets into it (he is 12 now and currently into Little Mix).
