No, as far as I know Pandora's box comes from greek mythology and has nothing to do with the Ark of the Covenant. I don't know the time sequence though: which one came first? A hero (can't remember the name or the circumstance) was deceived by Pandora who gave him a box as thx for his works. His friends warned him not to open it, because Pandora was deceitful and evil, but he was arogant and proud and opened it to see his present. All sorts of plagues and diseases were released into the world from the box. This is why when in modern times we refer to "Pandora's box" we warn against a situation where you might get into something that you think is good but that generates lots of troubles in the end for you or for the world (like inventing the atomic bomb, some would say).
