Presbyterian is originally a Scotish Calvinist denomination. The Anglican Church was started by Henry VIII to get a divorce from his first wife, Catherine of Aragon (The Act of Supremacy). Both are Protestant denominations though not similar.

All of these denominations are an outgrowth of the desire to reform real and perceived errors in the established Roman Catholic Church starting in 1517. Anglicanism is an attempt to be both litutgical, that is,formal and with an emphasis on the mystery of worship (e.g. the Eucharist celebration) and to affirm that salvation is based grace alone through faith alone in Christ's death and resurrection. Methodism is a less formal outgrowth of revival movements in 18th century Anglicanism led by John Wesley who wanted a more personal, emotional relationship with God. It retains the strong emphasis on bishops found in Anglicanism. It contrasts with Presbyterianism which emphasizes local pastors as the highest authority, having no bishops as they are seen as Catholic errors. There is a more rigorous emphasis on a rationally based relationship with God, although there is also the emotional aspect. This gives their morality a sometimes more austere quality compared to Anglicanism and even the intense piety of Methodism.
