  • if shes young i call her miss' an older lady mam 'don't use her name until interduced.
  • No I used to hate it when people called me by my first name at a job I had a few years ago. Just cause the sucky place I work for makes me wear silly name tags doesn't mean you know me bro.
  • Yes I do. I always try to use a person's name when they are wearing a name tag. My wife taught me this (she is in sales). It makes a more personal connection. And sometimes it suprises them because people forget they are wearing a name tag quite often.
  • Yes..isn't that the point of the nametag? I think she would prefer that to anything else a customer might come up with. :)
  • I don't, I never really feel the need to use any name. She asks me "How is everything?" And I say "Great, thanks!" No need to tack a name on the end. Story Time(Can't resist :P): At my job, I work in a customer service type setting and we are required to use name tags. Whenever I take a client in, I always introduce myself as "Gabrielle". For some reason, however, only about 25% of people pronounce it correctly. I feel like there's no point in saying my name (or anyone elses) if you're going to pronounce it incorrectly. i.e.: "Gob-rell" "Gabe-ri-uhl" "Gabby" and "Gab-re-ella". It's really not a tough name... I'd prefer you to just call me "The Lady" which is perfectly fine in this setting.... just my dollar and two cents.
  • No. She didn't put the tag on herself, her job did. I work in sales and I don't like it when people call me by my first name. It's nice, I guess, but also kind of irritating.
  • If they come to my table and introduced themselves by name then yes I do, I believe that would be proper etiquette. I would not just read their name and address them without their introduction first.
  • If they introduce themselves... If not I usually ask their names the second time they come to the table.
  • I rarely call anybody I don't know too well by any name. Been going to the same warehouses for over 7 years now, and while I do know the names of most of the secretaries and dock workers, rarely do I call them by name. Many don't know my real name, neither, and don't call me by anything. A few do, some ask my name -- I never ask back, but do say my name.
  • Always. Everywhere I go yo...
  • if shes friendly and approachable, yes i would, because i wouldnt think she would be affronted?
  • Why not? Say there name, or just "you"? The primary point for most waiters and waitresses wearing a name tag on their uniform. Even many young girls, often in their late teens or early 20's, who works as maids and nanny girls living in their employers home and are required by their employers to a wear uniform also have to wear a name tag on their uniform. Arriving guests can see their name and who they are, even if the girls often have to curtsey and introduce themselves by telling their name and who they are.
  • Probably not. Most waitresses prefer to be called "Honey", "Babe", "Toots", "Sweetheart"... (only kidding) I try to call them by their name.
  • If she introduces herself as such. Otherwise, I stick to a less personal and more formal/professional means of address.
  • Yes. We had a very nice one the other day named Trainee;)
  • Yeah. It's a lot better than hoolering, "Hey, barmaid - I'm parched over here!"
  • yes, its only polite.
  • Yes I will.
  • No, I wouldn't.
  • Yes , that is what the name tag is for to foster a friendly attitude.
  • Especially if her name is Flo. Oh Flo!?!?! Hurry up with that coffee, will ya?
  • Only if I know her.
