  • IGNORE* If the torrent file has a copyright protection; yes. It's illegal and you can get in serious trouble...if you're ever caught. *IGNORE EDIT* IGNORE* Oh now, wait. I remember hearing that downloading is legal. *IGNORE EDIT* Ok! Stupid me finally did the research. It is illegal to download anything that you do not already own. Uploading is illegal. The rules are probably slightly different in other countries but, it seems, if the material is copyright, it is illegal to share it unless you are downloading what you already own. In other words, they wont come after you for downloading material since they can't really prove you don't own it and lost it or something.
  • Downloading copyrighted material is illegal in the United States. I'm not sure about other countries. Realistically, however, you're only going to get "busted" if you download tens of thousands of dollars worth of material on a regular basis, or happen to download plans for a nuclear weapon or something. The government knows you're doing it, but they have more important things to worry about than some 15 year old kid wanting to watch Pirates of The Caribbean on his computer for free.
  • No. Downloading the content is, though.
