  • Not really. By lying once, it causes a chain reaction and usually you get caught. If you do the crime, you do the time. The truth always comes out in the end, so you might as well just go with the truth from the start and then deal with the consequences...
  • NO Wait I just lied.
  • Never justified, but, on very rare occasions, unavoidable. Examples would be -you are hiding a Jewish person in ww2. German soldiers come to your door and ask "Are you hiding any Jews?" In this case you must say "No". It is still wrong, but unavoidable. -you are a Hebrew midwife and Pharaoh's order is for you to report the births of male babies. When the authorities ask why you have not done so, you say "Hebrew women are different from Egyptian women. THey have often delivered before we arrived." This is a lie. It is wrong. But it is unavoidable, and there is no clear choice to make. Either would mean death But these are rare occasions. Lying is always wrong.
  • Yes...almost anything can be justified given the circumstances.
  • Anything can be justified. For example, I was lying to stay alive. To me, thats justifiable. To others that might want to shoot me, thats no real reason. It's a matter of perspective you see.
  • Ask Schindler...
  • Nope. But then again, some people don't deserve the truth.
  • No I don't
  • You are under no obligation to tell the truth to those who do not deserve it.
  • Yes. Lying is a valuable tool to control a situation to provide a favorable outcome.
  • I can think of one instance where lying was justifiable, at least to me. I gave my word to a friend to keep something in confidence, just between the two of us. Someone else asked me point blank if I knew the details. If I'd said "Yes", that would have confirmed the confidential information, so I replied, "I have no idea." I gave my word to my friend that I would keep quiet. I considered keeping that promise to be more important than satisfying someone else's curiosity.
  • Yes. I think there are circumstances where telling the truth will do far more damage than lying. They're few and far between, but they do exist.

  • No, lying is always wrong, no matter how you look at it.
  • Damn good question, guy! imho, it is if its to save somebody senseless hurt or if they were incapable of understanding the (often) complex nature of reality. But even that is a "slippery slope" kinda deal.
  • lying is never justified. one should never lie. Either you don't speak about it or don't lie. It can also be done that you lie to save your ass in a situation, but after the situation is control you should / must speak the truth no matter what it causes.
