  • Not enough information. What version of PS3 do you have? The are four versions of the machine currently out there and the easiest way to distinguish them is by their hard drive size. Gen 1 - 20gb hard drive - 60gb hard drive Gen 2 - 80gb hard drive - 40gb hard drive All Generation one machines are 100% backwards compatible with PS2 games as they contain the actual PS2 chips inside them. Of the Gen 2 machines the 80gb machine has some backwards compatibility due the software emulation (you can go to the SCEA site and type in your game and it will tell you if it works). I'm told that 90% of all PS2 games will work with this machine. However if you have the 40gb hard drive machine (it came bundled with the "Spider-Man 3" movie on Blu-Ray) you have absolutely no backwards compatibility. If this is your machine your are effectively screwed. If you have any of the other machines (both Gen 1 machines or the 80gb Gen 2 machine) you should be able to play your PS2 games. If you can't, you have a drive or chipset problem, and should return the machine to the place you purchased it to get a replacement. Hope this helps.
