I found a Bic Disposable Lighter without a "flame adjustment" feature. It produced a 5" flame, aka torch, so it seems unsafe. Does every newly-made Bic lighter lack this adjustment gizmo?

This flame is dangerous. i have had one identical to the one you have described. i let the fuel exhaust itself and threw it away. Most lighters are massed-produced in mexico or other foreign countries. i can only assume their quality-control efforts are non-existent, not to mention being safety-conscious. The best lighter i have used, comes from Mapco. its a cricket and is everything a safe lighter should be.

No, not every newly made Bic lighter lacks the adjustment feature. You just got a "dud." I've seen plenty that have the adjustment feature or won't let the flame get higher than about a half inch in height.
