  • The heater core is located inside the plenum box and on the Taurus is accessed from the front of the box. You have to remove the dash panel to get to it, but it is actually one of the easier heater cores to replace. Once you have removed the dash, you will see the heater core cover. Disconnect and drain the coolant from the engine compartment side, and the heater core will slide out of the front of the box, and is replaced in reverse order. Before you go to all the work, this is something you should only do if you actually have a leak in the core or if it is terminally blocked. You can flush the core with a garden hose from the engine compartment and make sure it is clear. The other big problem with the Taurus is the blend door.
