I think you've already answered it. Instead of answering not married, answer separated. Most forms give that option (in America anyways) and as the topic this question in implies, if you really want to be clear cut, when it is possible, reconnect with your spouse for the months it may take to "sign the documents."

You can say you are no longer married when you have a legal stamped document from the county court house in witch you were married stating that you're divorced.

Legally - when you have the paperwork officially declaring it so. Emotionally - whenever you feel it ended for you.
