Nine members of the cast, says Orlando Bloom, faught the number 9 in Elvish tatoo'd at the same time. Took some persuasion to find an artist to do them all the same day. Vigo Morgensen showed up at the tatoo parlor in costume, sword in hand, who could say no to that?

The design is an Elvish word that represents the number nine (which of course stands for the number of members of the Fellowship of the Ring). For Sir Ian McKellen and Elijah Wood (the oldest and the youngest members of the cast respectively), was their first tatto experience. They do not have the tatto on the same part of the body, but most of them chose the shoulder, arm or ankle.
