A member is someone who has joined something and is part of a group of people who have the same priviledges or access to whatever organization or group they joined. They usually are considered to have lower status than whoever created the group. whereas an affiliate can also be considered a member of the group but also can simply be associated with it. in other words they may have dealings with the group but still have an individual identity and don't necessarily have to be involved directly. think of it as members are part of the family whereas affiliates are family friends...
