  • I think it's about taking a chance and falling in love with someone, even thought everyone tells you not to. The 'bleeding love' is about being hurt by the person you, but you keep loving them anyway.
  • i think it means she is so in love with this man, that if you cut her she would bleed love.
  • I believe this song is about having an addiction to a or many drugs. The verses are a clear analogy for heroin or intravenous drugs. Quote the last verse: "And it’s draining all of me Oh they find it hard to believe I’ll be wearing these scars For everyone to see" Read through the song again with that thought in you head. I'm sure it will become very apparent thats what it about.
  • I actually think that this song can have many meanings...it just depends on the view of the listener.I don't think it's "apparent" that it is about drug use. I think that just because she says that she is wearing scars, doesn't mean there physical...I think they can also be emotional as well. I feel she is saying that she will show herself to everyone whether it's weak or strong because love does that to you some time, and it a way it's almost showing her strength by admitting to it.
  • The people who talked about the song being about love were partially right and the ones who talk about drug addiction...well, are completely wrong. This song is about loving someone who doesn't love you back. Here let me explain with the lyrics: Closed off from love I didn’t need the pain Once or twice was enough And it was all in vain Time starts to pass Before you know it you’re frozen **These verses mean that she has closed herself off from love because all it is to her is pain. She was in a couple of bad relationships and they ended with nothing. After a while, when you close yourself off from being loved or loving someone, your heart turns cold.** But something happened For the very first time with you My heart melts into the ground Found something true And everyone’s looking round Thinking I’m going crazy **Then she met this guy, and she falls for him. And she thinks that this guy will be true to her unlike the others, (don't we all think that) but in reality, he isn't. Its one of those situations where everyone sees what is going on and they are trying to warn her, but she won't listen and so they think she is crazy.** But I don’t care what they say I’m in love with you They try to pull me away But they don’t know the truth **This verse is self-explanatory. She isn't listening to them, because she is in love with this guy. She keeps denying to herself that it isn't happening.** My heart’s crippled by the vein That I keep on closing You cut me open and I **This is where a metaphor comes in. In this section, she is trying to realize that he is hurting her like the others. When she trys to detach herself from him, (she tries to close her vein of love (metaphor!)) he makes her fall in love with him all over again. (he keeps cutting her open) The reason she uses these metaphors is because she wants us to see that this process to her is painful, just like someone cutting their wrists would be.** Keep bleeding Keep, keep bleeding love I keep bleeding I keep, keep bleeding love Keep bleeding Keep, keep bleeding love You cut me open **This is the chorus. She is talking about bleeding love. This guy keeps apologizing or doing whatever (keeps cutting her back open after she tried to heal)and she keeping 'bleeding love' for him, which means she keeps falling back in love with him.** Trying hard not to hear But they talk so loud Their piercing sounds fill my ears Try to fill me with doubt Yet I know that the goal Is to keep me from falling **This ties along with the people trying to tell her whats going on and she refuses to believe them. But deep down in her heart she knows that they are right. She knows that they only want to help her.** But nothing’s greater Than the risk that comes with your embrace And in this world of loneliness I see your face Yet everyone around me Thinks that I’m going crazy, maybe, maybe **She knows that if she stays she is taking a risk because this relationship will likely end up like the others. But she doesn't care because its means more to her that in this time of loneliness he is there, or at least that's what she thinks.** But I don’t care what they say I’m in love with you They try to pull me away But they don’t know the truth My heart’s crippled by the vein That I keep on closing You cut me open and I.... Keep bleeding Keep, keep bleeding love I keep bleeding I keep, keep bleeding love Keep bleeding Keep, keep bleeding love You cut me open And it’s draining all of me Oh they find it hard to believe I’ll be wearing these scars For everyone to see **This confusion about loving this guy is draining her emotionally. The people find it hard to believe that she is willing to go through this pain because she is so in love with this man. Everyone sees what she is going through, and yet she stays. The scars being another metaphor for her love for this guy even though he doesn't return it.** I don’t care what they say I’m in love with you They try to pull me away But they don’t know the truth My heart’s crippled by the vein That I keep on closing You cut me open and I.... Keep bleeding Keep, keep bleeding love I keep bleeding I keep, keep bleeding love Keep bleeding Keep, keep bleeding love You cut me open So that's what I get out of the song. I hope it clears a lot up for you guys.
  • when i listen to this song is think: It's about, when your so in love with someone that whn they hurt you, you "bleed love" meaning you loose love from inside, but not towards them.
  • I believe this song is about her falling in love so many times and they all end up not working and breaking her heart and then she finds this guy she thinks that she is in love with and people are looking at her like she is going crazy because they know exactully where this relationship is going to end up going and she won't listen to them when they tell her that it is going to end up the same as all the others.
  • i think that this song means that she has gone through many relationships and none of them have worked out the ay she wants it to work out. then she meets this guy and she thinks it is the one and other people keep telling her that he is like the rest. She doesn't believe them. But it turns out that he is just like the rest and she had knew from the start that what people were telling her was the truth.
  • I think the song bleeding love is about someone keep falling in love so many times over and over after being hurt her heart is damanged but she doesnt care because she is in love and dont care who knows it
  • Okay, I've come up with several interpretations... The first I came up with was just like gothic fairy's. There is no need to repeat it again, after all, he did go into quite a dissertation. The second interpretation that I came up with was that she fell in love with another girl. If you listen to the song and think that way, it's possible to hear that... (though this is the least likeliest of possibilities) The third one, I think she is saying that she tries NOT to fall for the guy. Cause she closed off her heart, and it was frozen, but the guy's love is piercing.. it pierces straight to the heart and it "bleeds love". Love comes out like a fountain, and it doesn't seem to end, like an open wound. I still think the first theory is the most likely, but I like to see things from other angles.
  • I think Leona is such a talented and beautiful vocalist, but I'm really not impressed with the song. This song, jus like Jamelia's 'Thank you' is a prime example of the music industry's attempt to make young women see themselves as weak and inferior to men. Leona's song is about being masochistic and under the control of the rogue lover (who is possibly abusing her emotionally). She keeps turning to him even though time and time again he keeps her 'bleeding'. The bleeding metaphor in itself is very disturbing and has connotations of physical violence even if it's not meant to be interpreted that way. Moreover, Leona's video shows her looking gorgeous, wearing designer clothes, in a beautiful apartment and dancing around in an erotic way. What message does it give to young girls? That they should be impossibly beautiful, sexy and all for what? To be hurt deeply by a player type of guy who doesn't even deserve her? Maybe.
  • I love this song!!! It really speaks to me about my sitution. It is so true. This is exactly the pull of emotional abuse. Most abused women don't leave their abusers. They have this tiny hope that things may be like they used to be, the person will apologize and love them. If not their selfworth is crushed. After you invested emotionally into a person who used to be nice to you, then suddenly took you for granted and treated you like trash out of the blue, its hard to reverse your feelings. When I asked the guy who took me out what was going on, is there someone else, he told me not to call him, write to him, text him, call him or talk to him or communicate with him in any manner. We used to be good friends. I felt like cutting myself. I have a strong muslim upbringing where I was taught as a kid how to resist such urges. My other gal pals who had that happen all cut themselves. Perphaps its a desperate appeal from the soul to write the wounds of the soul physcially so that the outside resembles the inside, and ask for mercy, an apology. The apology never comes. Men can be cruel and women do commit suicide as a result and men need to understand that, and be careful about their actions. If you want to break up, its a lot faster to be a jerk, but its worse than physical abuse, takes much longer to heal. If you won't beat a woman up that bad, don't torture her emotiopnally. Instead, "phase her out", and tell her, I am sorry, its not going to work. You face her tears, crying and then she is okay and is fine and you two are friends and its over. It takes a lot of balls to break up properly and most men lack that now. Its better to punch a woman in the face then cut her off. Its just a small scar, but being rude or cutting her off cold will make her throw up for days, hemmorage, and lose weight to the point of it being a danger to her life, her face cut up and melt from scars and acne related to stress until her whole face is a welt. Women just need a man to say "I am sorry" after he hurt her, and her friends don't get that, but the sad thing is that he doesn't either and probably doesn't care.
  • Tallula, although I agree that the music industry does throw many songs out there to make women seem inferior to men, I don't think leona lewis' song was doing that. It was art, she was basically singing about how so many other women nowadays are feeling when it comes to relationships. The lyrics didn't consist of anything along the lines of "I'm your bitch" or "Do with me what you will cause I really don't care, I'm helpless and weak." It was basically saying "Oh crap, this guy has me as his emotional prisoner and I can't escape even though I know it's bad for me." There are MANY songs by male artists that portray the same message...songs like "addiction" by ne-yo say things along the same lines. This song has nothing to do with inferiority of the sexes, but instead has everything to do with what happens when the human heart weakens and falls helplessly and hopelessly under someone else's "spell".
  • The song doesn't really say that, you're right, but together with the video, it has a more sinister meaning, which I've already mentioned in my previous comment. If it was art, the video would have looked less shallow, it would have looked depressing and arty, and Leona would have looked shabbier. But instead, the video has her looking not just gorgeous (because she's naturally gorgeous), but also extremely well-groomed and wearing the latest designer fashion. The message could easily give to viewers is: 'Even though you're miserable, at least you look good. In fact, you should look good no matter what. If you're feeling suicidal, don't neglect your hair and make-up. If your boyfriend has cheated on you and you feel devastated, just put on a killer dress and heels and he'll regret what he's done' It's not simply a beautiful, heart-felt song. It's a beautiful, heart-felt song with a video that distorts the song's human-ness. Like almost every other commercially-oriented music videos, it completely ignores the meaning and the content of the song and turns it into yet another advert. Misery and the ideal look for women don't go hand-in-hand. If you're miserable, you cut, you don't get out of bed for days, stay in your pyjamas, you stink from not taking a bath.
  • well tp me it has a diffrent meaning than it dose to other ppl idk let me explain: Closed off from love I didn’t need the pain Once or twice was enough And it was all in vain Time starts to pass Before you know it you’re frozen **this means that she closed her heart from love cus she didnt want to get hurt agin but after awhile thats not good either cus then you dont feel that great.** But something happened For the very first time with you My heart melts into the ground Found something true And everyone’s looking round Thinking I’m going crazy **this means she found a guy that she falls for bad. and she thinks that this will last but the guy she chose noone would have thought that she would fall for him cus he's not what she usually would go for so they think she is going crazy** But I don’t care what they say I’m in love with you They try to pull me away But they don’t know the truth **she dosnt care wht they think cus she loves him and they try to get her to brack up with him because they think they wont last or cus they dont like him (that is my case but its only with a few ppl.** My heart’s crippled by the vein That I keep on closing **the heart stands for her emotional heart and the vain stands for love and she keeps closing it because she dosnt want to be vulnerbale** You cut me open and I **but he cuts her vain open and at first she dosnt like because she feels vulnerable** Keep bleeding Keep, keep bleeding love I keep bleeding I keep, keep bleeding love Keep bleeding Keep, keep bleeding love You cut me open **This is the chorus. She is talking about bleeding love which means that she loves him so much that she is willing to let him *cut her open* and be vaulnerable to hurt.** Trying hard not to hear But they talk so loud Their piercing sounds fill my ears Try to fill me with doubt **ppl are starting to get to her and telling her things that might or might not be true or just suspitons that they have.** Yet I know that the goal Is to keep me from falling **but she knows that they are only doing this(well the suspision part) because they dont want her to get hurt.** But nothing’s greater Than the risk that comes with your embrace **but shed rather be hurt and be with him (if thats what he is doing) and she wants to be and stay with him.** And in this world of loneliness I see your face Yet everyone around me Thinks that I’m going crazy, maybe, maybe **but then she thinks about how she was lonly and hurting and she see's him as a comfort but she dose love him and he is what keeps her toghther and now everyone thinks that shs going crazy and she thinks she just might be (but in a good way)** But I don’t care what they say I’m in love with you They try to pull me away But they don’t know the truth My heart’s crippled by the vein That I keep on closing You cut me open and I.... Keep bleeding Keep, keep bleeding love I keep bleeding I keep, keep bleeding love Keep bleeding Keep, keep bleeding love You cut me open And it’s draining all of me Oh they find it hard to believe I’ll be wearing these scars For everyone to see **all her love is going into him and ppl cant belive that he has closed the 'scars' that other men have made from 'cutting her open' and she'll 'wear' tthose scars so they can see how much he loves her and how much he's helped her.** I don’t care what they say I’m in love with you They try to pull me away But they don’t know the truth My heart’s crippled by the vein That I keep on closing You cut me open and I.... Keep bleeding Keep, keep bleeding love I keep bleeding I keep, keep bleeding love Keep bleeding Keep, keep bleeding love You cut me open **ya so i hope that this has givin you a diffrent point of veiw than the other ppl and maybee its wrong but thats what i got out of it so ya;)**
  • yep yep yep!!! :):):):):):)):):)
  • You people who think this song is about abuse...YOU ARE ALL KOOKS! Let me say that again...YOU ARE ALL KOOKS!!!!!!!! Latinachica has it down. It has NOTHING to do with someone who doesn't love you back. Quite simply, the girl turned herself away from love, someone came along who brought it all back for her, and it's strong enough that he's got what it takes to bring out the best in her.
  • i love the music video thoe i cried. ): shes a very good singer. keep singing girly. (:
  • I agree. :) She's totally in love and hurting, but she wont stop cuz her heart wont let her. Everyone else wants her to for her sake. As long as she keeps holding on to this guy he's going to keep being a walking sex organ. Taking advantage of her.
  • i heard its about losing her virginity. there are several lines in the song that support this.
  • Aww, guys. I'm sorry but I HAVE TO set this song straight. I'm reading how ppl are suggesting and perceiving this song as women who are physically abused by their partners, or how it unfolds a woman with a drug addiction, and how she 's trying not to fall in love with him. No no no. HAHA.. This is what I think...... Please reply/e-mail me what you think (baby_angellie@hotmail.com): basically, straight up, she's been hurt in the past. therefore she believes she can't love anymore. so like her heart is "frozen" (as said in the song), and it is incapable of functionaing like a normal heart, which is to love and to give out blood to the rest of your body. so that you will run as a normal human being. but THEN, she finds a new guy, who got her frozen heart to melt: "i melted to the ground, found something true". right? then, people who care about her, who have seen her hurt, and are used to her state of being frozen, and liking that at LEAST in that state, shes safe..they dont want her to hurt more. but they don't know the "truth", which is that this guy is DIFFERENT. and he got her to truly love again.. so as soon as one hears this song, and they hear the word bleeding. they think its emo-related and that shes outwardly bleeding from her body. well wrong. so like her heart is frozen, there's no WAY getting to it. so when she says "my heart is crippled by the vein i keep on closing"..since VEINS bring blood TO the heart.. he CUT her open. so now the blood going to heart is no longer being blocked. therefore, he got the heart to flow normally back into her.when she says "i'll be wearing these scars for everyone to see". she wants EVERYONE to know, it was HIM who cut her open. he is the reason for her happiness, she wants to show him off..that this is the guy that did that for her.so yeah the bleeding part, is just her normal functioning blood running through her veins. not emo.and repeatedly, its emphasized "keep bleeding, keep, keep bleeding love"..shes bleeding not only for her body to be normal but to love
  • i know what this song means because it happened to me.all my life ive been closed off from feeling love and i met this guy a year ago and when we kissed something happened for the very first time my heart awakened and i felt as if i was "bleeding love"finally being able to feel love/compassion.and the people around you want to warn you from falling in love.and the part where my hearts crippled by the vein i keep closing means she has kept her heart guarded and he was able to penetrate her heart to make her feel love and she doesnt care what they say its a risk she is taking because she doesnt want to listen to people say dont fall in love
  • There are numerous ways to interpret this song. Angel, your version is very interesting and a total different way of looking at it then most people take it. That is how I initially interpreted the song when I heard it. BUT when you watch the video, the video is definitely interpreting the song the way that other have in this forum. If you watch the video, you'll understand why everyone is interpreting it that way. In the end, that’s what music is all about, taking it and interpreting it for yourself so it applies to you and your life :)
  • I looked up at a picture of Jesus and saw his wounds, then instantly this song came on the telly, this is what i gou out of it Singer:"Closed off from love I didn’t need the pain Once or twice was enough And it was all in vain Time starts to pass Before you know it you’re frozen" The singer looked for love just in people and was hurt many times. But something happened For the very first time with you(JESUS) My heart melts into the ground Found something true(TRUE LOVE) And everyone’s looking round Thinking I’m going crazy People think ur mad turning to Jesus But I don’t care what they say I’m in love with you They try to pull me away But they don’t know the truth The world tries to take you away from jesus but you love him now and they just cant see the truth, that is why they do it. My heart’s crippled by the vein That I keep on closing (now a pause follows) her heart is hurt by closing herself to Jesus Jesus: "You cut me open and I.... Keep bleeding Keep, keep bleeding love I keep bleeding I keep, keep bleeding love Keep bleeding Keep, keep bleeding love You cut me open (You add to his wounds by turning away) Singer:"Trying hard not to hear But they talk so loud Their piercing sounds fill my ears Try to fill me with doubt Yet I know that the goal Is to keep me from falling" The worlds people do all they can to take her away from Jesus But this is to be expected just stand strong in faith. Person:"But nothing’s greater Than the risk that comes with your embrace(risk of being persecuted) And in this world of loneliness I see your face(she knows he is real) Yet everyone around me Thinks that I’m going crazy, maybe, maybe " The people make her doubt! Singer:"But I don’t care what they say I’m in love with you They try to pull me away But they don’t know the truth My heart’s crippled by the vein That I keep on closing " (as above) Keep bleeding Keep, keep bleeding love I keep bleeding I keep, keep bleeding love Keep bleeding Keep, keep bleeding love You cut me open (as above) Jesus:"And it’s draining all of me Oh they find it hard to believe I’ll be wearing these scars For everyone to see His blood is being drained, the people he love find it hard to believe in him When he returns he will be wearing the scars he suffered on the cross, for all to see.
  • I also think that it doesn't have to be physical... but I think that it is DEFINITELY not about drug abuse, even if the song sounds like it. I mean, I think it's about physical abuse, but thats just my opinion. 'Cause the first line is, "Closed off from love, I didn't need the pain, Once or Twice was enough, and it was all in Vain, Time starts to pass before you know it you're frozen." It's like he did it to her once or twice, like, on accident or something, and then it became a habit, and she still loved him even if she was bleeding love when he abused her. Just listen to the song deeply, and if you don't see it, then my second guess is like what Gothic Fairy said.... just... listen deeply to this beautiful song.
  • My belief is this song is portraying herself being hurt so many times, that she has a hard time loving someone. She finds a man, and he seems unlike the rest. She falls for him, but her friends say he's not good enough because hes not PERFECT. However, she believes that it doesn't matter, because she's in love with him. She will wait by his side because she knows no one is perfect, and he is worth it. I understand that because when I got with my girlfriend she did A LOT of things wrong at first, she wasn't ready for a relationship. However I loved her so much and so deeply, that I waited for her to figure herself out. We have been together a year now, and are engaged. This is our song actually. Mainly because my love kept bleeding for her, even though she wasn't perfect. I accept her flaws because everyone has them. However your FRIENDS always say, oh just leave. This is a beautiful song, which I love the most by Leona Lewis.
