  • I wouldn't say its particularly slow...
  • Of course not. it is much more than that. Most smokers agree that Smoking cigarettes is pleasant and enjoyable. Smoking makes good times better. They want a cigarette most when they are comfortable and relaxed. The fact that it hastens their death, sometimes in horribly painful ways does not change that. Neither does the fact that it ruins the taste of food, and makes them smell very unpleasant, and destroys their furniture and clothes or any of the other known bad effects of smoking.
  • Is coal mining slow suicide? Is not drinking a daily glass of red wine slow suicide? Is not jogging slow suicide? Is living in Mexico City slow suicide? You are talking about a "risk factor" These exist in countless forms in every walk of life. There is a correlation between smoking and premature death but there are many factors involved including general health, frequency, smoking indoors vs. smoking outdoors, family history of cancer and heart disease, dumb luck.
  • although i am aware of the dangers of smoking and i myself dont agree with it i do not think it is a slow suicide as many people i know who smoke dont want to die
  • Living is a Slow Suicide, we die one day, Smoking just speed it up a little
  • Its more of slow suicide of your immune system
  • if it is i'm sooo gonna do it!
  • Like they say: Start your own layaway plan...Start smoking.
  • Its kinda weird. I know old people who smoke filterless cigarettes and they're in perfect health accept for the lucy voice. Maybe we all need to switch to Lucky Strike Non-filter.
  • Only if the reason you smoke is to deliberately kill yourself. "Suicide is primarily the act of intentionally terminating one's own life."
  • No. Only humans can enjoy the effect of smoking and no other animal can, so why should we not smoke when we can? Even if I smoke regualrly, I would like to smoke less and enjoy it more to reduce immediate negative effects, but in the end we all die, so what the heck!
  • sure but no matter how you word it people who smoke still dont care.
  • Unless its some kind of subconscious will to die, then not really, because no matter how aware smokers are about the habit's health hazards, people don't start smoking with the intent to kill themselves.
  • For some it's not very slow. It's more like a layaway plan.
  • My husband quit (before I knew him) when he realized that he didn't want to die.
  • For a suicide one has to WANT to die. I would assume that most smokers smoke because they like the feeling, not because they want to end their lives.
  • Yes, but no matter how may times you tell a smoker, they are hooked, it's an addiction..Some get to quitting, but the damage is usually done.
  • I wouldn't go so far as to call it suicide. Brain cells homicide maybe haha. Then again a lot of things kill brain cells, so I wouldn't just blame it on smoking.
  • Pleeeese people, you begin to die the day your born. Common sense should dictate, if you smoke 5 packs a day it's not in your best interest. However smoking a few cigs a day is not going to kill you. Jeese do you belive everthing you read?
  • It IS!
  • Yes it is, that's why I quit and I intend to remain a quitter.
  • you can smoke and not die! i smoke and i have no wish to commit suicide!
  • Breathing is slow suicide smokers (like me) just flavor it!
  • OF COURSE NOT! People know smoking kills but they dont fully comprehend it in their minds for instance, when ever they light up, if ever death enters their mind theyre probably thinking, this cigarette surely wont kill me so what the hell..... whereas if it was instant, noone would be smoking except the suicidal
  • yes it is. its not fair that people that smoke dont get put in mental hospitals, yet other people are.
  • just the same as driving is a game of russian roulette
  • No I don't think so, I think maybe drowning yourself would be a slow suicide. Eating burnt toast can give you cancer, studies have now found that some water can give you cancer, alot of people get cancer and die that never even smoke. So no to answer your question.
  • I like to think of it as accelerated living.
  • Yes, so is drinking, over eating, lack of exercise, drugs and some marriages
  • Virtually everything you do in life has consequences. Using tobacco, or drinking, or overeating, or being "oversexed" can cause health problems both in the young and in the old. Specifically you asked is smoking "slow suicide", and the short honest answer is no. The facts are obvious and openly aparent to everyone that everyone will die someday - I will die and all of you who read this answer will die. Exactly how and wen we will die is unknown to virtually all of us, and the so called "AVERAGE" lifespan is indeed just that - an average - and probability states that you personally have a very low chance of dying exactly when that "average" comes around. Excessive tobacco usage can cause health problems which might lead to an overall shorting of your life - or it might not....it certainly increases your odds for some medical conditions - but dosn't make any of these conditions a probability - it just increases the odds of their occouring on average. The same can be said about excessive drinking, drug addictions, certain professions, enviromental conditions, economic conditions, and political & social conditions. Tobacco usage and smoking in particular dosn't equate to "slow suicide", since the intent is not to harm oneself but to derive pleasure from the act of smoking. Nobody starts smoking to kill themselves - they do it because they choose to do it for social reasons and the pleasure they get from it. Everyone will die - what matters is not how long you live - but that you enjoyed life while you had it. We all take our pleasures where we can - it's just that like most enjoyable pastimes smoking has it's negative sides as well.
  • Yes. Excellent question by the way.
  • Unfortunatly yes it is - and you could also slowly be commiting murder to those around you
  • It's like passive suicide.
  • As is living...
  • For some yes,
  • Yes, it certainly is.
