I can only compare them with sausages from other European countries and they certainly have a higher cereal/lower meat content. I still prefer them though, but it's probably a case of liking what I already know.

They vary drastically. I dislike fish, so every time I go to get Fish and Chips, I tend to have a choice of chicken and chips or sausage and chips. Sometimes the sausages are amazing (one shop particularly has the best sausages in the world!) and sometimes they're next to inedible. But you never can tell without trying them first!

I dont know how bad people say they are. They have very little meat in them, are usually prepared with loads of minced up pig parts (like ears), they have lots of spices and are generally much better than those offered by some countries (eg, Turkey - where the sausages are a horrid pink colour and they taste awful)

If you pay for the best then they are great, i buy the pork with cheddar sausages, but when i visit my mum in france, wow...the sausages there are out of this world, thats what i call a propper sausage, Gordon Ramsay did a programme on sausages and he found that the average sausage only contained a third meat, the rest was tendon, cartilage and all sorts mixed in to make up the content, now if you buy sausages and they say '8 sausages' then they are the worst you can get at a 1/3 pork content, where if they are labelled '8 thick pork sausages' then they are only 50% pork...so i would have to say our sausages are rank unless you pay over the odds for decent ones.

Yes they are i have had many a beastly banger...you get what you pay for comes to mind.

My husband raves about the "Newmarket sausages" he grew up with. I find them to be very like hotdogs. So I don't see what all the fuss is about.
-
I think they're quite nice.

I don't know. Maybe Divine Brown can tell....

NO!! The farm-made sausages in this country are WONDERFUL!! True, if you buy the really cheap ones, they are revolting, but you can get some truly delicious varieties, like venison and red wine, pork and apple, lamb and mint, beef, spiced pork, and they're not all pink and flabby! And not just to be eaten with chips, either. Toad in the Hole - now that's a traditional English dish for you! Please ask for details! :D

No. They are the tastiest sausages in my opinion.

Many of the mass-produced ones available in supermarkets can be very fatty and not that tasty, but if you get a proper sausage made by a real butcher, then they can be as good as any in the world.

A proper british sausage is AWESOME.

Todays sausages are nowhere near as good as our old fashioned "Bangers". They are so restricted by European Union regulations of content that they have become tasteless. However those made by local butchers are much better than mass produced one's......with one exception "Black Farmer" which are available in most of our supermarkets. I stumbled upon these quite by accident,a couple of years ago I was diagnosed as being Coeliac I ,therefore , have to have a gluten free diet,no wheat, rye, barley or oats, which includes the rusk that is in most sausages. With this brand you get the added advantage that they are "all meat and a real treat". Tasting just like a good old fashion "Banger". Sizzle ,sizzle.
