No, though Crane's friend John Carpenter (not the director) was long suspected. While motive is unclear, Carpenter was known to engage in and film Crane's sexual dalliances. It was believed for 14 years that Carpenter was guilty, largely due to the presence of blood and what might have been human tissue in his car, neither of which he could explain. He was tried and acquited due to lack of strong evidence and died four years later.
