  • In etiquette, it's generally preferred to address a person too formally if you are unsure, to allow the person being addressed to correct you if that person is uncomfortable with the formality. But I suppose no one really minds etiquette these days, and/or the rules are all unwritten and arbitrarily universally misunderstood, so I don't really know at this time.
