Supposedly "sanctions"...but sanctions have never succeeded in turning a government away from a course that it is determined to pursue (there are several other CURRENT examples). So: the "sanctions" are mostly (not entirely) a political ploy. "Look, voters! We're trying really hard to stop the war (without actually trying to stop the war)." *** "The West" - knowing Russia was planning invasion and repeatedly informing us so - left Ukraine to hang out to dry. (i.e. "Russia: we know you're going to invade Ukraine. We will not send troops. Instead, we will do "sanctions"...so go ahead and invade...) *** That being said, "The West" really *is* trying to limit Russia's success in Ukraine with these sanctions and with arms shipments. We know this because these strategies are causing economic harm to the nations that are implementing them. BUT...Russia continues, despite the economic hardship that THEY are experiencing. This suggests that Russia has a clear "exit strategy" with regard to the sanctions. *** MY GUESS is that Russia will take the entire southern coast of Ukraine (very lucrative for several reasons, including especially oil and port cities) and then declare the war over. They will then expect sanctions to be withdrawn...and they might be correct in that expectation. *** Meanwhile, the Ukrainian government will lose about 1/4 of its territory and who knows how many civilian lives, and they will have no recourse for any sort of restitution...UNLESS the sanctions continue until Russia returns all Ukrainian territory to Ukraine. *** Given how much Russia (and especially Russian politicians) will profit from the conquest, I expect that they are willing to endure sanctions for longer than most Western nations are willing to apply them.

There's really nothing that can be done. He isn't affecting anyone in US. Nor is he interfering with any other country. He's only after Ukraine. What he wants or does with Ukraine... You can't stop it. The reason you can't stop is he's got the largest number of nuclear stockpiles in the world. And also he exports good amounts of oil to lot of countries, including US. Banning oil supply from Russia created very high gasoline prices. Your car doesn't care if the oil comes from Russia or Saudi Arabia. This is not a perfect world. There's good, and there's bad. You have to live with the both -- coexist. There's no way you can make it all good. Trying to do that will be doomed failure
