I've always thought it was the hour from midnight onwards. No proof! Just what I was told as a child.

I have heard three things about the "witching hour": -It's the time from 12am to 1am -It's just the moment that the day changes to the next day -It's from 12am to some undisclosed time later in the morning, preferably when it's not dark out anymore. The whole thing sounds like a bunch of crap to me, but who knows?

I've always heard that it was 3am...I have no idea where I got that from, however, so it's likely just bollocks.

apparently the witching hour is 12am but 3am is the demonic hour. it is an inversion of 3pm when christ was supposed to perished!

Although it is said that it begins at midnight, that does not actually mean an exact time on the clock ... rather, it means exactly halfway between sunset and sunrise ... when the sun, the earth, and you all line up for a brief moment, that is when it begins.

In European folklore, the witching hour is the time when supernatural creatures such as witches, demons and ghosts are thought to be at their most powerful, and black magic at its most effective. This hour is typically midnight, and the term may now be used to refer to midnight, or any late hour, even without having the associated superstitious beliefs. In neopaganism, it is sometimes used to refer solely to midnights occurring during a full moon, when a witch's power is supposedly at its greatest. One of the earliest known uses of the exact phrasing "the witching hour" is from 1817 in the introduction to Frankenstein by Mary Shelley: "Night waned upon this talk, and even the witching hour had gone by before we retired to rest

In traditional folklore, the "Witching Hour" is midnight, but this connection to Wicca is dubious. Just because something contains the word W/witch does not mean that it is connected to Wicca. The origin of this phrase has nothing to do with Wicca. In Wicca, the end of one day and the beginning of another is sometimes said to have special power, and be a time when the veil between the physical and spiritual is its thinnest (the same is said of Samhain, so midnight on Samhain has special significance). However, for ritual or magical purposes, the night is measured between sunset and sunrise the next day. This time period is divided into 12 equal parts ("hours"). Thus, "midnight" (literally, middle of the night) is the ending of the 6th "hour" and the beginning of the 7th "hour". This time differs from night to night, and your clock will never show it.
