The question is how can you teach yourself how to talk to your cockatil

You can repeat simple words/phrases to the cockatiel. You have to be patient because it takes a long time to get a bird to talk. If the cockatiel isn't talking, it just doesn't want to talk. Cockatiels aren't the best talkers, so you shouldn't get frustrated if they can't.

Just keep talking to it all the time. And if you don't have the time set its cage next to the radio and let it listen to that. Just don't let it listen to Dr.Laura's talk show. or you will be hearing "How could you do that"? All the time.
