Who says you can't? Your mother? Your conscience? In any event, I really think your question may be symbolic of a deeper subject than pudding or steak. Are you really asking something like, how can you really enjoy the finer things of life unless you have made prior sacrifices? Well, it may make you feel better to know that many folks get rewarded without having undergone adversity first.
