  • I think depression is contageous...
  • The world's a pretty depressing place
  • Status anxiety. Abnormal brain chemistry. There seems to be an ingrained inability in people to appropriately deal with the crap life throws at us - society, morality and human nature has made us this way. A lot of people have a belief that they *should* be able to do certain things and when they can't, or they *shouldn't* do certain things or feel in a certain way, they mentally beat themselves up. People also internalise their bad feelings (anger, sadness, frustration etc) to be polite or because that's what they've been taught, and these feelings don't go away, even though the person things they have - the feelings later re-express themselves and can lead to depression. Also, more people are going to the doctor and getting checked out when they are down - in other words, in the past they may have been depressed but not gone and dealt with it, so the actual incidence rates according to health organisations are on the rise, when in reality the number of depressed people hasn't really changed.
  • Things and people are going so fast and expect to much to quick
  • If it is not depression due to a chemical imbalance such as bi-polar disorder, alot of things can cause reactive or other forms-types of depression including: 1. Loss of a loved one 2. Divorce or marital/relationship problems 3. Financial problems (a huge area of stress and depression for many people these days) 4. Being afraid - of wars of being out among people. It is a very scary and depressing place. 5. The media - They write about alot of depressing things and we see alot of depressing news events on TV daily. 6. Unresolved pain and anger and hurt from childhood or later. it stays with people and then it turns into a different type of depression that becomes chronic. 7. Physical illness - Depresses many people due to being shut in and also the pain and lack of control over some illnesses can be very depressing. 8. Feeling lost in life - No real fixed goals to work on daily and weekly can lead to a feeling of numbness which can feel like or be a type of depressing. Those are the main reasons most people get or are depressed at various times in their lives.
  • Because we are not in touch enough with our body. If we were in touch with our whole body we would get plenty of exercise, rest and great REM sleep.
  • Can't speak for everyone, but I've got a SH*T-load of reasons but you really wouldn't want me to tell you about them, And I'm not inclined to spill much info bout them here anyway.
  • There are 2 primary reasons why depression is so prevalent in modern society. 1) The medical profession is so much better at diagnosing it than used to be the case. Also, the populace is much more aware of depression, so more people are seeking treatment for it than in past eras. 2) Humans evolved in an environment where mental stressors were generally intermittent and short in duration. For example, you might encounter a tiger. Either it ate you or you got away. Either way, the stress event was over quickly. In contrast, modern life is full of constant everyday low-level stressors (job stress, home stress, political stress, economic uncertainty, etc.). This constant stress can deplete the resiliency of our mental coping mechanisms. Once those mechanisms fail, depression symptoms often occur. Ironically, depression itself is a stressor, leading to a 'vicious circle' of depression leading to more depression.
  • It is easy to look at the world in a depressing state. Also to dwell on things that you are good enough or you can never accomplish something. The best thing to get over depression is to see the good things in life. Set goals realize accomplishments. Every night think of something that made you happy or something you accomplished that day. It is easy to slum over everything it takes work to see the good.
  • there are no more than usual - there are just as many people not depressed as there are people depressed. If you are depressed then sometimes you just assume everybody else feels as you do. However, I am here to impart the good news, over here in Sittingbourne, we are all quite jolly.
  • Dont start me off!! 1, its dog eat dog 2, rains for 49 weeks of the year! 3, Wages still the same yet everything else rises!, 4, Taxed for earning, taxed for saving, taxed on everything, will be taxing our farts next! 5, No British culture anymore, well such as it was! 6, Long hours shit pay and no loyalty from employers anymore, 7,Money goes to money, whilst the hard up seem to pay out for more. 8, Living on top of each other, i mean howmany sardines can u fit in a tin!!! 9, population overload! think i will stop now as i am winding myself up lol.
  • I think a lot of it is our lifestyle and the society we live in. Our lives are so busy and we are under huge amounts of stress in our everday living not to include the pressures of media, wealth and getting the best career and all the rest.
  • because life is hard and we are not taught nor given the tools to be able to deal with it. instead we are taught false expectations instead of deciding what we need to do, what we want to do with our lives, we are taught to follow and not think. of course at some point in our life we will stop and realize, where the hell did it all go and what the hell am i doing with it? money is the new god and we no longer feed our souls. we are empty and looking for a quick fix (i.e. fast cash).
  • Because they dont travel enough to just get away from it all.
  • People let their emotions, fears and negativity run wild with them. You HAVE to control your thoughts. (I KNOW it's not that easy for some, but it does work for most).
  • Society is changing in ways that benefit society as a whole at the expense of the individual. A good example would be the i-phones (gadget of the week). Do we really need to be able to see what the menu is in some restaurant on the other side of the world on our cell phone? Human interaction is eroding with each and every advance in technology. (the more we learn to 'communicate', the more isolated we become). I think the increase in depression is because of the decrease in human contact. Of course there are other medical/psychological reasons as well.
  • George W. Bush and the state he has put the world in.
  • Because of a deep heavy gloom upon us caused by the problems of this every day world.
  • because quite bluntly, life sucks. Not all the time but the majority of the time it can seem to.
  • My birthday's so long away.
  • I believe that many people are depressed. I also believe that now adays people are looking for excuses for their own behavior and their own insecurities. They want an excuse. Their laziness and need for personal gratification takes away the doctors attention and ability to treat those of us who actually need help. So thank you media and flaming liberals who think that we all need to "feel" good about ourselves. You now have taken the attetion and seriousness of the conditions and diseases of the people who ACTUALLY need help, and now arent taken quite as serious as would have been before; because people want an excuse as to why they have stress in their lives. Shut up, get ahold of yourself, and just because you have an ingrown hair on your butt doesent mean that you are depressed. Go home and allow the doctors to focus on those of us who actually need treatment and help because we have trouble functioning during simple daily activities such as the realization of the fact that the next day has begun, the sun either is or is not shining, and if its not- oh man look out- its gonna be a really bad day- and we once again have to repeat the daily cycle.
  • Because, there is something missing that everyone needs. I'm sure that other people will agree.
  • Because of poor diets, stress, jobs, the economy and the fact that life is getting more and more harsh and less and less enjoyable for so many people.
  • It is easier to remain depressed than to deal with life. Depression is a fickle thing that you cant pinpoint why it is happening. You just do what you can to make it through the day or do what you can to help your loved ones.
  • I Like to know to
  • Very few adults take time to enjoy the little things in life these days. Its all about i want i want i want.... People very seldom laugh anymore either.Without any form of laughter your already started in a negative direction in my opinion. Were all in a hurry to go nowhere, yet were angry when we don't immediately get huge results. One day you exercise the next you want 6 pack abs and an elite athlete of a body.Of course your going to be sad when you work today and don't see results like that tomorrow,Its impossible. Also were far beyond impatient. The best things in life often come slow and overtime. No one wants to wait, they want to press a magic button to be rich, have a perfect body, perfect job, perfect spouse, no wonder a lot of us fall prey to depression. It can take 10 years to get to the point were you have a large sum of money in the bank, 10 years to get into excellent physical condition, not 10 minutes... We need to LEARN to enjoy the little things in life. like a mistake should be learned from but also laughed about, why do we have to be so serious? lighten up and laugh once in a while is what most of us need to do.And don't spend 5 years complaining about how pathetic you were on one day at your job, get over it you slipped and its ok,you probably went in the next day and did excellent, we need to learn to be more reasonable, give yourself some credit once in a while. We cant live life without a slip up,nor can we live life 100% serious 100% of the time, just cant it will fail and lead us to depression.I hope this helps clear up why in my opinion and from what I have seen in my own life, as to why so many people are depressed and what they should do to change it.Hope that helps =) Note, This doesnt include EVERYONE, I think a lot of people have some of these issues, but I want to be firm that I dotn mean everyone. Some people may be depressed from losing a close friend, or there sister. so there is different reasons. Thanks for reading.
