Normal blood pressure regulation can often be achieved through lifestyle changes, such as lowering intake of saturated fats and salty foods. Exercise, maintaining a healthy weight and not smoking also allow the body to regulate blood pressure.
On the Other: Medications and Treatments
Lifestyle changes will not always be enough to help the body regulate blood pressure within normal ranges. There are different medications and treatments to regulate blood pressure. Prescription drugs like beta-blockers reduce nerve impulses to the heart and allow it pump blood with less force, while diuretics eliminate excess liquid from the body.

According to the Mayo Clinic, the reason a person's body does not regulate or maintain a normal blood pressure is unknown 95 percent of the time. This condition is called primary hypertension. Under these circumstances, medication and lifestyle changes will probably be prescribed by a doctor. Secondary hypertension is caused by an underlying condition such as kidney failure or congenital heart defects. In these cases, a specific procedure might be called for to control blood pressure.
