According to Dr. Neil Baum and Bradley Spieler, Kegel exercises are an effective treatment for premature ejaculation. Their effectiveness comes from strengthening the pubococcygeus muscles, the muscles that control an orgasmic response. Kegels are also less expensive and safer than medical alternatives.

On the Other: Problems with Kegels

Even Baum and Spieler admit that kegels can take much longer to work than medical or surgical options. In some cases, they may not be effective unless resistance is added. Also, in attempting to perform Kegels, the wrong muscle can be exercised which can in turn place more pressure on the bladder.

    Bottom Line

When the correct muscles are targeted, Kegels are usually effective even though it may take a month or longer for results to become apparent. For people who want immediate help, other medical options might be more viable but a medical specialist should be consulted.
