Terramycin, also known as oxytetracycline, was discovered in a soil sample by A.C. Finlay and his colleagues at Pfizer Research Laboratories in Brooklyn, New York. It was first described in a one-page paper, written by Finlay and 10 coauthors, in the January 27, 1950 issue of the journal called Science.
