The distance that a dog can smell has not been averaged. Dogs within each breed have different numbers of scent receptors, giving some dogs a better sense of smell than others. A dog's nose is about one million times more sensitive than the human nose. The distance a scent can be picked up depends on weather, the wind, and the environment surrounding the scent. However, dogs can pick up a scent up to four days old if the conditions are favorable.
