A queen-size quilt of 12-inch blocks with 1/4-inch seams would need about 8.5 yards of 45-inch-wide fabric, and about 8 yards of backing fabric. The amount must take into consideration the size of your quilt blocks, your quilt design and how far the quilt will hang over the sides of the bed.
