The J.D. degree, or juris doctorate, is an American law degree that allows the recipient to take the bar exam without having to complete an apprenticeship. Without taking the bar exam, a J.D. degree recipient can work as a paralegal or in legal departments in an advisory or nonattorney position. A J.D. degree can also be used for political jobs, federal agents or work as a law librarian.
